No. 17.17.2 Subject Category: Furniture Date or Period: circa 1890's Object: Jewelry cabinet, footed Description: A jewel case in the form of a footed cabinet that is a two-keyhole escutcheon with locks that secure the hinged top and jewelry drawer. The cabinet is gilded with gold leaf that has been decorated with hand painted musical instruments and flowers in various colors. The top of the cabinet is decorated with an 18th-century style shepherdess and an admiring young man in the background. All of the painting appears to have been painted in various colors. The interiors of the drawer and jewel box are lined in a silk quilting. Size: H-30 1/2 x D-11 1/2” x W-24 1/2” History of Object: A jewelry cabinet from the Nancy Martin estate on Mound Street, Alameda; this cabinet was originally owned by Cora Lessig.
