Unsigned. Size: 9 x 12 inches. History of Object: Water color study of flowers by Lura Hinsdale Smith. Born August 6, 1855, unmarried and living in Alameda. Daughter of Elijah Smith. Source: Hinsdale Genealogy 1906. Died, September 8, 1912. Ms. Smith was an accomplished china painter, practicing her art in Alameda in the 1890's and early 1900's. She also painted in water color and oils. Beside painting and selling her wares she also taught china painting. Ms. Elizabeth Thomas, Mrs. Tilden, Mrs. Lum (the elder) being some of her students.
