Acc. No. 25.98.1 Subject Category: Homes of Alameda Date or Period: circa 1907 Object: book of maps Description: A library-style bound book (tapes are visible) of maps with added detail handwritten in pencil. Covers are of worn and faded black book cloth over cardboard, with a remnant of leather spine on the front cover and one black leather corner. Spine is lost. Front has a sticker stating: 'BLOCK BOOK: / CITY OF ALAMEDA / CIRCA 1906 ' (and a doodle), and in large faded white letters, and at top right, on a small sticker in ballpoint: ‘6X’,. Pasted on the inside of the front cover is a pale blue piece of paper with a typed index, pasted over a remnant of a newspaper clipping. Pasted on the inside of the back cover is a Map of Mastick Park, Barker & Adams agents. On the first map page is handwritten in pencil: 'J.C.L' and 'J.C. Linderman', on the opposite page (back of the 2nd map) three pieces of paper are pasted: 1. a clipping of a probate recorded March 16, 1907; 2. a business card of Victor Hanson, Agnew & Copeland, Realtors, 1536 Webster Street; 3. a typed letter on yellow paper dated 1/6/62. Size: L 20 x W 13 1/2 inches. History of Object: Blockbook of the City of Alameda, originally owned by J.C. Linderman, found in the basement of Mr. and Mrs. Turner Hollings, 905 Pacific Avenue (a home built in 1908), who in turn gave it to realtor Victor Hanson, who brought it to the library for the Historical Society. Librarian H.K. Kleinjan gave it to Historical Society curator Mrs. Richards in 1962, who gave it number 6X.The object has been in the museum since then without receiving a new catalog number.
