Description:
A-Elaborate Victorian style valentine, booklet type, with cover composed of paper lace and colorful embossed paper cutouts, central motif of ladies hand holding flowers. Interior of card contains message printed in ornate type with decorative border.
Size: 4 3/4x7¼ inches.
B-off-white envelope with sepia tinted ink inscription "Master James McDonell, Bay Farm Island, Alameda, Feb 14th, 1882. Size, 7½X5 inches.
History of Object: Valentine given to James McDonell, from Mrs. Amos Mecartney, Feb 14th, 1882. Mr. McDonell was the nephew of P. A. McDonell, and was raised on Bay Farm Island. The McDonells and Mecartneys being some of the earliest pioneers of the vicinity.
