L 9" x W 14 1/2" History of Object: Refoldered documents found in the attic of City Hall in the 1990s. Documents relate to: A. #214, 1928-1932, requests for, and protests against, installing of electroliers. Includes (#214-6) a complaint on letterhead of A. Feldhammer, contractor, at 1004 Park Street. B. #213, 1928, contract awarded to Hutchinson Company for improvement of part of Central Street; #216, 1928: approved petition, with blueprint, to close northern end of Bay Street; #218, 1928-1929: stenciling/painting of housenumbers on the curbs, with offer by John B. Hurton, painter, of No. 9 Garden Road. C. #217, 1927-1931: requirement for houseboats and other shoreline structures to connect to City sewers, and a complaint from the Waterside-Thompson Improvement Club against the sewer dumping out into the Tidal Canal there, and proposals for sewage treatment. #217-10 is a survey by state Health dept. of California of Alameda's (and Oakland’s) sewer system, including clam digging activity (2 Chinese, 5 employees of a San Francisco firm). D. #219, 1928-1932: handbills and advertising matter. Includes letterhead of Alameda Housewives League (#219-2), Park Street Merchants Association (#219-5), and Taxpayers League of Alameda (subtitled: Airport City of the World).
