Acc. No. 93.14.241 Subject Category: Household Date or Period: C - 1860's Object: Trunk. Description: Traveling trunk consisting of total exterior which is completely covered in tooled leather. Interior contains the original buck ram covered liners and dividers with applied paper design in blue color. Bottom of trunk supported with two wooden panels with casters. Exterior below the lock contains the incised manufacturer’s name. Mfg. by CROUCH & FITZGERALD MFG. CORNER OF BROADWAY AND MAIDEN LANE AND 176 CHATHAM ST., NEW YORK. This information is also repeated on two separate paper labels that appear on the interior. On the side of the trunk in black stenciled letters appears the name M. Kelsey, Brooklyn, N. Y. Size: H - 17 x W - 30 XD - 17 inches. History of Object: Trunk given to Adeline Toye Cox by a former neighbor, Ida Kelsey. Miss Kelsey was the sister-in-law and heir of Eli Dunning, pioneer Park St. paint dealer. She lived with her brother-in-law at his home 2619 Santa Clara Ave., which he had built in 1891, and was the neighbor and longtime friend of Wm. & Adeline T. Cox. Upon her death the Coxes inherited some of her personal effects. Acquired from: Estate of Adeline T. Cox Date: 7-12-1993
