Description: weathered wood board, painted sea-green on one side, and branded into the wood a pyrogravure design of a fish, with in the middle, a circular design stating 'Alaska Packers Association - San Francisco'. On the top right, 'Brand' on the right, under the fish, 48 tins, and underneath the whole, 'Salmon'. In the long sides are 6 holes, and the short side 4.
Size: L 12 1/4 x W 9 1/4 inches.
History of Object: Cover of an Alaska Packers crate. Likely, the color on the back indicates the board was used as to patch a piece of siding or similar usage. The holes indicate this has actually been used to close a crate. The Alaska Packers Association was founded in 1891, with the main offices located in San Francisco. the business was sold in 1982. The fleet would go to Alaska in spring, catch salmon, which would be canned in local canneries, and then transported to the Bay Area in fall, and the fleet would winter in Alameda. The canned salmon would be stored, possibly in the brick Packers storage building, built in 1927 - now the 'Del Monte building.
