A garden with a prominent young palm tree surrounds the house. History of Object: A photo of 828 Taylor Avenue, built in 1878, with Dora Fortmann, daughter of owners Henry and Anna Fortmann, on the porch. Four generations of the Fortmann family were raised on Taylor Ave. and Ninth Street. The Fortman Marina on Clement Avenue is named after this family - one of the scions - Henry Fortmann (1856-1946), a nephew of the Alameda Henry - would became the first president of the Alaska Packers Association.
