Bowl of compote has been mended with red tinted tape. Size: 12 3/4 inches high, 9½ across dish opening, base of compote- 6¼ across opening. History of Object: Compote was a wedding present to Mr. & Mrs. P. A. McDonell, from Mr. & Mrs. Amos Mecartney, all pioneer names of Bay Farm Island, Alameda. At one time there was a road on the island named in honor of the McDonells. The McDonells settled there prior to 1872, owning several acres of land which they farmed.
