Description: silver miniature shovel, with text engraved on the blade (all in capital letters): 'Presented to:/Mayor Frank Otis/The Alameda Airport Inc./in Commemoration of/Ground Breaking,/August 19th, 1928.' Handle and grip have dark patina. No silver marks.
Size: L (overall:) 4 3/4", blade: L 1 1/2" x W 1 1/8".
History of Object: sterling silver commemorative miniature shovel, given to mayor Otis at the ground breaking ceremony of the Alameda Airport. The airport was operational until 1939, when it was overlaid by the Alameda Naval Air Station.
