Size: folded: 8x4 inches; unfolded: 8x8 inches. History of Object: Hand tooled leather wallet made by Lura Hinsdale Smith, 1855 to 1912. Ms. Smith was an accomplished china painter, practicing her art in Alameda in the 1890's and early 1900's. She also painted in water color and oils. Beside painting and selling her wares she also taught china painting. Ms. Elizabeth Thomas, Mrs. Tilden, Mrs. Lum (the elder), Anna Spreckels were some of her students.
