History of Object: collection of clippings mentioning members if the Blake and/or Dyer family or their friends. These clippings were previously mistakenly given numbers in this accession already in use for other objects. Donor: Dorothy R. Dyer Date: June 17, 1995 Details: A: one-column clipping with headline in bold type, with on verso layers of backing paper. Heading in bold type: Miss Mae Benedict to be married’, and handwritten in pencil ‘1913’. Report of the announcement of the wedding of Mae Benedict and James M. Eschen, 1913. The wedding took place at the home of Mrs. R. H. Blake, aunt of the bride. L 6 3/4" X W 2 1/4". B: one-column clipping with headline in bold type, with on verso layers of backing paper. Heading in bold type “Miss Jean Benedict Bride of Haslett Haight”. The bride’s uncle, Robert H. Blake was giving her away, and Dorothy Blake, a cousin, was one of the bridesmaids. L “ X W 2 1/4” C. One-column clipping with remnants of backing paper with double headline in bold type in a box outline: “Well-Wishers Just Get Left - Practical Jokers Out-Smarted by Football Coach, Bride”, reporting on the marriage of high school football coach Chris Freeman and Helen Lyons, at the home of D. Elmer Dyer, 915 Chestnut Street. L x W D. one-column clipping, with remnants of backing paper, with logo with flowers and the word 'Society', headline 'Miss Mary Kitterman Gives Dinner Dance at Palace'. Describes a birthday party for Robert Pyke where Mary Kitterman was hostess. Present were also Philip and Frederick Pyke, Joseph Kitterman, Jack Dyer, and Dorothy Blake. L 4 1/2" x W 2". E. one-column clipping, with remnants of backing paper and headlined 'Alameda Home Setting For Dance', subtitle 'Engagement of Daughter of Hostess Announced to Guests of Evening'. Undated. Announcing the engagement of Mary Waldron Kitterman of Cedar Street and Robert Edmund Pyke of Union Street, violinist. Size L 5 1/2" x 2". F. clipping with remnants of backing paper, of an image of a young woman, caption 'Miss Mary Kitterman'. No year given. Clipping has a 2” tear running up from the middle of the lower edge. Announcing date set for wedding of Mary to Robert Pyke, June 5. Photographer given as Coleman Portrait. Size L 7" x 4". G. clipping with remnants of backing paper, titled ‘Smart Affair Given Today For Bride and Bride-Elect’. Describing the guests at a bridge tea at the Chinese room at Hotel Alameda, given by Miss Kahtryn Gilbert and Miss Alice Munn. Guests included recent bride Mrs. Samuel Dunmire (Margaret Dickinson), and Miss Jean Dickie, recently engaged, and also included Eleanor Clark and Dorothy Blake. Size L 4” x W 2” H: Clipping with backing paper, with in bold print: ‘Cards are out for Kitterman-Pyke Wedding’. Describes wedding between Mary Waldron Kitterman of 855 Cedar Street, and Robert Edmund Pyke. The couple would be moving in to 853 Cedar after the wedding. They were married c. 1925. Size: L 5 1/2” x W 2” I: Clipping glued to backing paper, headed with capital letters 'IN THE presence'. Describes the wedding of Miss Marian Greenlee and Bruce Stephens, at the home of Mrs. Frederick Greenlee in Alameda. Bruce Stephens was the son of Dr. and Mrs. William Barclay Stephens, and brother of Mrs. Dexter Weeden (born Elizabeth Stephens). The wedding took place August 14, 1929. Size (excluding backing paper): L 2 1/2 x W 2". J: Clipping glued to backing paper, with bold heading 'Miss Gertrude Wilkie To Be Married in Honolulu October 16. Describing the engagement of Gertrude Wilkie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wilkie of Alameda, and Charles Woodruff Williams, of Hawaii, who was a graduate of UC of May 1929. The reported plans were to marry and live in Tuuneme, Maui. The marriage was recorded as October 19, 1929. Size: L 6" x W 2".
