Object: Clamps seals
Description: Two tools mounted upon a single sheet of wood.
They are held to the wood by tin straps. They are black iron. The larger of the two has no identification. The smaller one (A) says "No.1 Pocket, Charles Morrill, New York," the manufacturer.
Size: A measures 8" long by 1¼", and B. is 9½" long and at its largest point is 2 3/4".
History of Objects: Instruments (2) used to fasten metal seals on mail sacks before the introduction of locks. The letters "U, S. Mail" were thus printed on metal seals then placed on the mail bags. 189.
