Description: A card on off-white card stock, with printed information in black type, on one side, ‘NAACP 1974’ and a printed seal between, and ‘MEMBER’, with a typed name and address, and stamped at the bottom in blue ‘May-1975’. Verso states ‘The N.A.A.C.P / Its Purposes’.

History of Object: NAACP membership of Emma E. Clinton, of 2329 Pacific Ave (no longer a house). Emma came to Alameda from Mississippi and was a member of the Kimbrough family, an early Alameda African American family. Emma married Bob (Lee) Clinton after he divorced Deborah Hackett, member of the Hackett family who were involved in the founding of Allenstown, first town in California founded by freed slaves. After Bob's death, Emma continued running the Drayage and Storage business in Alameda with her 4 sons. She died in 1977.
