History of Object: Rare certificate of appointment awarded to Arthur S. Barber, first Postmaster of Alameda, dated September 8, 1855. The certificate is signed by James Campbell, Postmaster General of the United States. Note: Mrs. Chapman is the daughter of the late Henry F.
