A has a hole punched through for hanging. Size: A-C: L 8 1/2" X W 11; D: L 7" X W 10" History of Objects: Calendars issued by the Alameda Victorian Preservation Society as promotional material and fundraising tool. They were: January: Jan Looney, 2169 San Jose Ave; February: Neal Fong, 899 Union Street; March: Paul Mundy, 2155 Central Ave; April: Enita Mullen, 2044 Alameda Ave; May: Charmaine Facchin, 2310 Pacific Avenue; June: Carol White, 2724 Alameda Ave; July: Lori Buhnerkempe, 2121 Alameda Ave; August: Inez Whitton, 1018 Paru Street; September: Jody Lee, 548 Santa Clara Ave; October: Paul Mundy, 211 Central Ave; November: D. M. Lynn-Jones, 1193 Park Ave; December: Charmaine Facchin, 2070 San Jose Ave. B. 1979. Has black-and-white photos, without any captions. Only the May photo is easily identified, as it's on a corner of Van Buren and Grove Street. Needs identification. C. 1980. Appears to have been the result of a competition, and has documentation by the Curator of the Museum, George Gunn, with every house. The captions are as follows: --- January: - 2025 San Antonio - This Queen Anne residence was designed by Charles Shaner, architect. It was erected in 1894 by John Sath, builder, for Mr. Walter Hoge at a cost of $2,418.00. This drawing was done in 1979 by Ted Szeto while a Freshman at Alameda High School. ---- February: - 900 Grand - This Italianate residence was probably built in the late 1870's. The exact date, the architect, the builder, the original owner and the cost of construction are not known. Records show that the house was owned by J.H. Rosseter in 1889. This drawing was done in 1979 by Matthew Laramie while a Junior at Alameda High School. ---- March: - 2216 Encinal - This residence was built in 1883 by C.H. Foster for Mr. Joseph Messer at a cost of $1,300.00. It was altered to the Eastlake style in 1894 for an additional $1,500.00. This drawing was done in 1979 by Catherine Boshoven while a Junior at Alameda High School. --- April: - 1031 San Antonio - This residence, known as the "'Tilden Mansion" was erected in 1896 by A.R. Denke, builder, at a cost of $8,180.00. It's original owner, Mr. Howard Havens, was a financier in San Francisco. This drawing was done in 1979 by Katie Soon while a Junior at Encinal High School. ---- May: - 2221 Central - This Eastlake residence was built in 1885 for Mr. T.S. Moser at a cost of $3,500.00. This drawing was done in 1979 by Elenor Kim while a Sophmore at Alameda High School. ---- June: - 2155 Central - This Queen Anne residence was erected in 1892 by Brehaut & Diamond, Builders for Mr. J.W. Powell at a cost of $4,599.00 This drawing was done in 1979 by Alice Song while a Sophmore at Alameda High School. --- July: - 2528 Crist - The “Spite House" was built in 1908 by Charles Froling for himself. Mr. Froling was a contractor, and built bridges for the railroads. This drawing was done in 1978 by Patrick Kenney while a Junior at Encinal High School. ---- August: - 2104 Encinal - This high basement Queen Anne cottage was built sometime after 1885 and prior to 1896. Records show that it was owned by Mr. Charles Uszynski in 1896. This drawing was done in 1979 by Tuan Karsevar while a Freshman at Alameda High School. ---- September: - 2233 Santa Clara - This Italianate residence with a mansard roof is one of a pair erected in 1880 by Edward Childs, builder, for Mr. A.H. Schnable. This other house was originally occupied by Mr. Schnable's father, but has been demolished. This drawing was done in 1979 by Erwin Morata while a Junior at Encinal High School. --- October: - 1208 Lafayette - This Queen Anne residence was erected in 1889 by Joseph A. Leonard, builder, for Mr. A.M. Radcliff at a cost of $3,000.00. This drawing was done in 1979 by Colleen Morris while a Junior at Alameda High School. ---- November: - 1007 Morton - This Queen Anne residence was built in 1890 by A.W. Pattiani & Co., architect and builder, at a cost of $3,950.00. Its original owner, Mr. E.J. Holt, was Secretary of the California Lumber Company in San Francisco. This drawing was done in 1979 by Matthew Laramie while a Junior at Alameda High School. ---- December: - 1024 Union - This Queen Anne residence was erected in 1890 by A.W. Pattiani & Co., architect and builder, at a cost of $5,150.00. It's original owner was Mr. A.W. Fink, a San Francisco merchant. This drawing was done in 1979 by Linda Doami while a Junior at Alameda High School. ==== D. 1981. Has photos based on glass plate negatives found in the loft of a garage, and Dr. Vernon Rabbich printed negatives. George Gunn, Curator of the Alameda Historical Society Museum, provided the captions. These were: ---- January: The John Barton Mansion. President of the Union Pacific Salt Company, San Francisco, was erected in 1879 at a cost of $15,000 and located at the present site of the Alameda Hotel. It was designed by the Newsom Brothers, architects of the Carson Mansion in Eureka, California. ---- February: This Italianate residence was the home and office of Dr. William P. Gibbons, an early doctor in Alameda, located on the southeast corner of Central and Park Avenues. Gibbons Drive is named in his honor. ---- March --- A view of Santa Clara Avenue looking west past Park Street. The large building to the right is the Odd Fellows Building erected in 1878 at a cost of $7,000. --- April: A story and one half Gothic cottage, circa 1850 or 1860, one of the earliest styles of architecture in Alameda. Location unknown. ---- May: A rear view of Presbyterian Chruch, southwest corner of Versailles and Central Avenues, erected in 1868. ---- June: The Presbyterian Parsonage, Versailles Avenue, circa 1868 --- July: Cottages in two different Victorian architectural styles. On the left, and Eastlake style and on the right an Italianate style. Location unknown. ---- August: Oak Grove Institute. An early college in Alameda built in 1854 in the Federal style, an uncommon architectural style in this area. After which College Avenue and Grove Street received their name. ---- September: An Estlake style cottage located at 1527 Willow Street was the home of Louis Komeier, musical director of the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco. --- October: An Italianate residence, location unknown, circa 1870's. ---- November: An Eastlake residence located at 1241 Regent Street was erected in 1883 for Rev. Rodney L. Tabor by A. C. Gilbert and Co. at a cost of $3,200. ---- December: An Eastlake style cottage located at 1174 Regent Street was erected in 1883, for W. G. Karford at a cost of $1,800. An Italianate residence is on the right. ---
