History of Objects: Naval Air Station (NAS), Alameda, in operation, date unknown. The identifying numbers are not visible on the two carriers.
NAS, Alameda, was established in 1939, and built on fill dredged from the Bay. It had two full runways in a cross lay-out (13-31 and 07-25), a traffic control tower, and maintenance workshops. In a military evaluation in 1993 closure was recommended pursuant to the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990. This was signed into law in 1994, and the station was officially closed in 1997.
Excel Graphics printed a series of nostalgically blue-tinted postcards based on black-and-white photos.
