Original tag had number U2. Metal and wood inscribed J.L.B. Inscribed "Empire Tool Co.," "Marten Dos?," "New York" on blade. Materials marked/inscribed "Warranted Cast Steel" on blade. Size: approx. L 9” by W 6” History of Object: Empire Tool Co. 9” Hand Plane, part of a collection of carpentry tools, owned by John Ucovich (presumed), an immigrant carpenter from Montenegro. John Ucovich moved to Alameda around 1925, and ran a trucking business in Oakland. By 1938 John (aged 61) lived with his wife, Myrtle May, at 775 Santa Clara.
