History: Certificate awarded to Percy R. Fox as Exempt Fireman by the laws of the state of California, issued by the Alameda Fire Department for the period March 5, 1896, signed August 9, 1904 by Fred K. Krauth, Jr., Chief Engineer A.P.D. The Certificate signaled the end of the volunteer fire companies, and as exempt fireman, Fox was free of jury duty - until that state law changed in 1905.
