No. 24.85.2 Subject Category: Citizens of Alameda Date or Period: 1920s Object: blocks, in wagon Description: A wooden (pine?) wagon, with sides dovetailed into each other, and screwed to the bottom, with 86 untreated flat wooden blocks of one size, appear to be oak. Cart has supports for 4 wheels screwed underneath, formed by two square pieces of wood ending in rounded sections sticking out past the side of the cart, with a small hole allowing wheels to be locked in place with a pin or nail. A hole on one side suggests it could have had a rope to pull. Wheels have disappeared. On the bottom is carved by hand the name: Steve Smith. Size: cart: L 15 x W 7 3/4 x H 4 inches (height with support: 4 1/2 inches). Length rounded section of wheel support: 1 1/4 inches. Each block: L 3 1/2 x W 1 3/4 x H 1 inches. History of Object: blocks in cart previously owned by a member of the Goodman / Holmes-Haslett family, who were long-time residents of Alameda. Doris Goodman was also involved in the founding of the Little Theater, forerunner of today's Altarena Playhouse. The gown was inherited by the donor and now passed on to the Alameda Museum.
