Acc. No. 81.146.1 Subject Category: Automobiles (Headlight) Date or period: 1910 Object: Headlight, automobile Description: It is a kerosene lamp, made out of nickel plated brass. It has a lens that is encased in a metal frame, on a hinge, that can be opened to ignite the wick. On either side of the lamp are faceted jewels, one in red and one in green. On the top of the lamp it has embossed script which says "Solar" encircled with filigree. On the back reverse side it has lettering in relief which says: "The Badger Brass Mfg. Co. Kenoshaw, Wis. U.S.A.". Patent 1899, Canada. Size: It measures: Seven inches high, and lens frame is 3½" circumference, five in. back from lens to oil reservoir. History of Object: Old fashioned headlight used on a White Steamer automobile about 1910, driven by Mr. Fayne. He lived in Alameda many years and had one of the first autos driven in Alameda.
