No. 21.34.37 A, B Subject Category: Chamber of Commerce Date or Period: c. 1970s Object: Alameda street map / directory Description: Folding street maps the covers of which feature a seagull and a triangular green symbol with in the center another seagull. A. has a pale blue oblong background and paler blue oblong under that, states 'Alameda Chamber of Commerce' underneath the symbol, and has a stamp 'Alameda Glass & Paint Co., 2315 Lincoln Ave'. B. has a deep-blue oblong background, in white 'Courtesy of', and perpendicular to that, in green the address and phone number of the Chamber of Commerce. Map itself in both cases has legend with copyright 1972 by North American Maps. The reverse has the street index, a business listing, and advertisements of businesses of the period. Size: (Folded): L-9” x W-4 inches. History of Object: Street maps and directories issued by the Alameda Chamber of Commerce, based during the tenancy of Mayor Terry La Croix. A in the period 1969-1973, B in the period 1973-1977. Businesses could place their stamp in the appropriate place, as the Glass & Paint Co. did on A.
