History of Object: Postcard, part of a series commemorating Naval Air Station, Alameda, when it was slated to be closed, in April, 1997, as result of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action.
This postcard shows the 1941 construction of barracks, and of the Albert H. DeWitt Officer's Club, on what is now West Red Line Ave. As per the legend on the reverse, NAS was commissioned on November 1, 1940, and played a vital role during WWII, by assembling or overhauling nearly 25,000 Navy planes and shipping explosives and ammunition to the Pacific Fleet.
