3/17/2020 MvL: current label: The Pacific Borax Company was founded in 1890 during the ownership of Francis "Borax" Smith. The borax, excavated in Nevada, was transported by rail to Alameda where it was processed and packaged. The refinery building, located in the West End, was the first reinforced concrete structure constructed in the United States in 1893.
