Masters, and his wife Bertha Sunny Cove Beach (originally known as Sunny Cove Baths) was founded in 1881, by the Misses Emma L. and Mary A. Dietz, whose brother, A. C. Dietz, had built an Oakland Opera House which bore his name. The maiden sisters acted as owners and operators of the beach, with the aid of their nephew, George H. Masters and his wife, Bertha. They subsequently inherited the business, embellishing the facility by building a large swimming pool in 1917 (said to have been the first concrete swimming pool in Alameda). The beach occupied the present site of Paden School, 456 Central Avenue, closing around 1950. Acquired from: Marjorie Fraley Date: July 23, 1983
