Description: Elaborate gesso frame, (comprised of three sections- outer border & inner liner- shaded green colored gesso accentuated with gold; center raised section of frame, gilt) enclosing family photograph in black & white.
Size: 35 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches.
History of Object: Photograph of the Geo. & Josephine Anderson family, pioneers of Bay Farm Island, who settled there in 1872. All seven of the Anderson children were born on their Bay Farm Island farm, which consisted of 5 acres. Geo. Anderson originally came from Mass, his real name was Geo. Miranda, but he had it legally changed. His brother Frank (father of Joe & Manuel) kept the name of Miranda, and also farmed Bay Farm Island. Anderson & Miranda were truck farmers, selling their produce to S. F. markets. The Anderson farm was eventually purchased by the Silva family. Mr. Anderson was a Civil War veteran, and died in 1902.

Anderson fought in the Civil War (navy). As a young man he sailed on a whaling ship under a Capt. Anderson, from whom he took the name "Anderson."
