Description: a glass bottle with rounded section and red printed-on signage, stating: ‘GOLDEN STATE / BRAND / DAIRY PRODUCTS’, below that in white: ‘REG. CAL.’, and along the bottom rim: ‘CREAM TOP PAT. MAR 3, 25’, and on reverse: ‘ONE QUART’.
Size: L 9 1/2 inches, diameter bottom: 4 inches, diameter top: 2 1/4 inches.
History of Object: quart cream bottle from the Golden State Dairy, which was an Oakland-based company formed around 1931 by merger of various Oakland Dairies. This bottle was found in 1986 by AHS graduate George West in an apartment apartment at the NW corner of San Antonio and Walnut.
It is possible the bottle was brought as an antique or curiosity to Alameda, or the cream was bought in Oakland and taken to Alameda (and so the bottle was not returned), but possibly Golden State products were marketed in Alameda stores.
