Acc. No. 97.67.1 Subject Category: Police Department Date or Period: Ca. 1880 Object: Photograph Description: Sepia-toned albumen-print photo mounted on tan paperboard. Photographer: Hoffman Bros., 810 Third St., Oakland (per rubber stamp on verso). Damage to image includes: minor foxing and spotting, a glue stain about 1/2-in. high and 5 1/2-in wide along the bottom margin, identifying numerals in white ink. The mounting is damaged by: an old green cataloging label glued to the upper left corner, dark glue stains on the upper mid-section and along the bottom margin for 5-in width, and a 1 1/2-in vertical tear and a nail hole along the top midsection. Size: L-6 1/2 x W-9 1/4 in. History of Object: Group portrait of members of the Alameda Police Department taken around 1878 in the garden behind Schulers Palace Brewery, across Cottage Baths on Central Avenue.
