No. 16.64.1 Date or Period: c. 1918-1919 Subject: Citizens of Alameda Object: Photograph Description: A dark sepia-toned studio photograph mounted on a dk. brown studio folder on which is the name of the studio " Walton, Albuquerque" imprinted upon lt. Size: H-6 x W-4 in. History of Object: A half-length portrait of Charles William Martin (1894-1977) in his World War I US Army uniform. He was eventually stationed in France, and served from Aug. 11, 1918 until Sept. 20, 1919, with the rank of 1st. Lieutenant. Mr. Martin was born in Point, TX, and died in Alameda. His working career was with Illinois-Pacific Glass Corp., San Francisco, later known as Owens-Illinois Pacific Coast Co. In 1937 Mr. Martin bought the Lessig residence at 1419 Mound St., Alameda, which was built in 1912, and in which his family resided until 2016. Acquired from: Estate of Nancy Martin Date: 12/22/16
