History of Object:
Photo of Capt. John A. Sohlin aboard the "Star of Italy" (a vessel of the Alaska Packers Association). He commanded this vessel from 1909 to 1925. He was born in Sweden in 1870, and died in 1946. The Capt. and his family resided at 1714 Pacific Avenue, Alameda. Note: This photo and other donated material was found in the basement of 1714 Pacific Avenue, after its purchase in the 1970's, by Mrs. Victoria Quintero. She had bought the home from Bernice Griffith, daughter of Capt. Sohlin, for whom the house had been built.
