History of Object: Exterior photo of 1533 Grand Street, Alameda. A residence in the Victorian Italianate style, it was purchased by Wm. Henry Kruger about 1883. The following annotation was written by the donor and appears on the reverse side of the photo: "House was later painted green. Lighting was always with gas. House was never wired for electricity. I did all my studying while attending Alameda High School from 1916 to 1920 under a gas lamp. Who is the baby in the photo? Uncle Fredrick Henry Kruger was born in Alameda June 15, 1886. The two girls are probably my mother, Mary Adella Kruger born in Truckee June 6, 1878 and my Aunt Anna Chapman Kruger born in Truckee October 25, 1880. The brick chimney hit the ground at the time of the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, I was there, only 5 years old." Wm. Henry Kruger Dunbar Acquired from: Wm. Henry Kruger Dunbar Date: 2-26-87
