Description: Sepia tinted photograph, on the reverse side, (rubber stamped) it states "Stoddard, Photographer, 308 Van Ness Ave., Phone Mint 20". The photo has been placed in a frame (not original) that is approximately the same circa. The frame is in a mat black finish, in ornate cast gesso, accentuated in gold.
Size: photo: 7x8½ inches; frame: 12x10 inches.
History of Object: Photograph depicting the interior and workers (Joseph Koenig, proprietor & owner, far right), Alameda Cleaning & Dyeing Works, 2315 Alameda Ave., Alameda, Ca. This was a pioneer dry cleaning establishment, which used benzine to clean clothing. The benzine was kept in large vats in the rear of the cleaning shop.
