Subject Category: Homes of Alameda
Date or Period: 1932
Object: photograph
Description: Photo on sturdy photo paper, with textured surface, of a one-story stuccoed house with snow on the ground. The house has a detached garage with a car inside, and a distinctive porch with triangular shaped arched entrance flanked by narrow unglazed window openings with same style top, and same style openings on the sides. The house number is illegible but has 3 digits. A child is visible behind the window to the left of the porch. A taller building is visible in the background.
Size: L 6” x W 4”
History of Object: photo encountered, unnumbered, in museum storage. House identified as 949 Buena Vista, in 1933 the home of amateur photographer Rodolpho or Rudolpho Dressel. Snow on the ground in Alameda is a rare occurrence, and based on that and the type of car in the garage, the photo can be dated to December 11, 1932, and the photographer may well have been Mr. Dressel. The taller building in the background no longer exists.
