‘View of the converted house and new stack of the SS PRESIDENT BUCHANAN, a 20-knot cargoliner of the Mariner class, as she steams out to sea to join the American President Lines' fleet and serve on the 'Round-the-World' trade route. The ship is the second of four converted by Todd Shipyards Corporation, San Francisco Division. Each of the four ships are undergoing improvements in cargo facilities and passenger accommodations at a cost in excess of $1,000,000.'
