History: Photograph depicting the main facade and grounds of Mrs. John Dwinelle, formerly Caroline McLean Chipman, of 1270 Weber Street. The house has since been demolished. Caroline Chipman is whom Caroline Street is named after. She was the widow of two illustrious California pioneers, William Worthington Chipman, co-founder of the city of Alameda and Senator John Dwinelle. Caroline and her daughters are pictured in front of the house.
The photograph was given to the Alameda Historical Museum in 1958 by the late Carol Heche, the granddaughter of William W. Chipman and Caroline Chipman.
