History of Object: Nell Schmidt, famous Alameda swimmer, swimming across the Golden Gate in August, 1911. She is shown at the midpoint with boats of newspaper reporters following her progress. She and her sister (the donor) lived at 504 Central Ave. (according to the 1912 Alameda City Directory).
