History of Object: Portrait of Racheal, wife of Lee Clinton and mother of Ida Clinton, early African-American residents of Alameda. Born in North Carolina, Rachel married Lee in 1886. They came to Alameda in 1889. She was a widow by 1906. She purchased property at 1525 Morton St. in 1912, where she lived until her death in February 1936. The house was later occupied by her daughter and various descendants.
