A black-and-white glossy photograph, unsigned and unmounted. Reverse has handwritten in black marker: ‘X 1713 East Bay Electrics’.
Size: L 8" X W 10"
History of Object:
A photo of East Bay Electric Lines Train baggage-engine combo #619, with signage ‘Southern Pacific Lines’, with rectangular end windows. Location unknown, but likely the West Alameda Maintenance Shop yard. These originally olive green combo trains were made by the American Car and Foundry Company, and the East Bay Electric Lines, a subsidiary of Southern Pacific, bought 25 of them in 1910. 22 of them received round windows by 1920, by which time they had been painted red. After train service in Alameda ended after the building of the Bay Bridge, most of these trains were sent to Los Angeles.
The "X" number on the back identifies it as having come from the Southern Pacific file of copy negatives.
