Description: Two glossy black-and-white photographs, of a white corner building with roof tiles and arch above the door, and sign stating 'Bureau of Electricity'. A shows only the central section of the building with two windows to right, three to the left. It has a paper label attached to the back, stating 'Fri. Dec. 24 - Blow up to 8 cel wide, Bureau of Electricity Progress Edition'. On A, to the right can be seen a parking meter and the characteristic lines of a Volkswagen beetle. B shows an additional section to the left, and an opposite street corner, with mail box, Fire Alarm box, and a white street sign with black type for the 2500 block of Santa Clara. Cypress trees along the side are up to the top ledge of the windows. Both have 2 staple holes at top left margin.

History of Object: Two enlargement photographs of the exterior of the Bureau of Electricity, 2440 Santa Clara Ave, corner Everett Street, apparently enlarged for a 'progress' report or publication. The building was originally the location of the administration building of the Municipal Electric Light Department. In the 1960s it was used by First National Bank. It was restored by Jett Thorson and Christopher Brooks by Jim and Bernadette Allen, to be used as their office for 21st Century Toys, and currently houses the law offices of William Berg and Associates.
Part of a collection of papers and photographs from an Alameda resident, donated by the heir who wished to remain anonymous.
