Two sepia photos of young men wearing white shorts and high socks, one holding a conical ball; one row standing, one row sitting; flanked by one man wearing pants, shirt and tie.
A. posed in front of a rugby goal; handwritten on verso is: '1st Alameda High Team / Rugby Team before change / over to American Football'. A building can be seen at left.
B. mounted on tan backing paper (grey on back); shorts have the letter 'A' in a circle on them; homes can be seen at right and some high poles or trees in the distance at left.
Backing has handwritten what appears to be 'T-S Spl / Nel / 4 Cal' (meaning unclear).
Size: A: L 4 1/2 x W 2 3/4 inches; B: L 8 1/4 x W 5 1/2 inches
History of Object: photos of Alameda High School rugby teams, A being the first rugby team formed at Alameda High. B is perhaps one or two years later, but appears still to be from before the school switched to support a football team. Otto Rittler was the coach.
