Description: Two sepia-toned carte-de-visite photos attached to the same black paperboard mounting Photographer: Wm. Shew of San Francisco. The verso of the images has the photographer's name imprinted and has a cancelled Internal Revenue adhesive stamp. The two photos share the left half of the mounting and typed description label is affixed to the right half.
Size: Overall: L-4 1/2 x W-9 in. (Each photo measures L-4 x W-2 1/2 in.)
History of Object: Portraits of
(a) Dr. Haile, wearing a top hat. He owned property located between Encinal and San Jose, extending from Post Street to San Leandro Bay. On this property he engaged in horticulture and he developed a peach variety called "Haile's Early Peach".
(b) Mrs. Haile, clad in a white lace shawl and a black dress.
