The fashion for boys' sailor suits expanded to an adapted version for girls - the sailor dress. The style is characterized by the parallel nautical stripes and sailor's collar, and frequently, a scarf tied in a square knot, or, as here, in a fancy bow. Eileen Knight was a member of the Knight family who lived in various homes in Alameda in the early 1900s.
