Description: Pair of glossy black/white photos with amber toning mounted on black paperboard on a museum display mounting of dk. tan paperboard (with another image donated by a different donor - 99.27.1). Photographer unknown. Both images are affected by corner trimming and partial fading. Image #a has an identifying arrow in blue ink printed upon it and a white typewritten description label glued to its bottom margin, and a vertical 13-in tear near its upper right corner. Image #b has a curved vertical tear, abt. 5-in long, originating from its bottom margin.
Size: #a - L-8 x W-10 in.; #b - L-7 1/2 x W-9 3/4 in.
History of Object: Views of Alamedan Nell Schmidt's successful swim from Fort Mason(?) over to Marin County. Image #a shows Miss Schmidt: diving into the Bay with a large crowd standing on a seawall; the background structure appears to actually be that of Fort Point (further research is needed). Image #b shows Miss Schmidt on board a rowboat after having swum across the Golden Gate, August. 11, 1911
