History of Object: Photos taken by Ken Keltz, an Alameda resident, of the vestiges of the Alameda Belt Line, as were still existing between 1999 and 2002. 1. Alameda Belt Line office, with sign, on Sherman, off Buena Vista, taken 1999. 2. Belt Line tracks running on the former Pennzoil Complex, corner Clement and Grand. 3. Union Pacific Switcher from Oakland yards, switching oiltank cars at the Pennzoil Complex, early fall 2000. 4, 5, 6: Union Pacific Work train cars from Oakland on newly graveled road bed, transferring old rail and ties to Oakland for disposal. The Fruitvale bridge can be seen on 4 and 5. Taken summer 2002, the last time trains ran on Alameda Island.
The photos were dropped off at the Alameda Free Library, with handwritten description on yellow note paper dated January 11, 2011, and were ultimately brought to the museum on 7/16/2021.
