Description: Glossy black/white modern photocopies of vintage prints. All have remnants of binder-paper mounting with LePages Glue on verso. Images #a,b,c have description labels affixed to their bottom margin. Most images have creased corners.
Sizes: a) L-9 1/4 x W–7 1/2; b) L-6 1/4” x W–9; c) L-5 1/4 x W–9; d) L-6 1/2 x W–9 1/4 in.
History of Object: Various views of the Pacific Coast Oil Company plant, at the corner of 1st Street and Pacific Avenue, which was built in 1879 and bought out by Standard Oil of California in 1900, The latter company dismantled the refinery in 1903 when its Richmond plant replaced it. This site eventually became part of the Naval Air Station. Views: a) refinery scene, featuring the tall brick chimney; b) large oil drum, vertical; c) panoramic view of the plant; d)general view of the refining operation from an engraving or print.
