Acc. No. 25.67.1 Subject Category: City of Alameda Date or Period: 1897-1959 Object: Map Book Description: large book with cover of olive-tan buckram or linnen, with remnants of a red leather or paper label on front and spine. On the spine, the words 'Alameda, Cal' can just be made out. The first pages inside has a map of Alameda with colored blocks, with on the right the title: 'Insurance Maps / Alameda / Alameda Co. / California', and 'Published by the Sanborn-Perris Map Co. / 115 Broadway, New York', year: 1897. On the left is a is the key, and corrected Record entries, 8 entries in the printed section, and a glued-in form with entries numbered 21-50, the last date 9-60. A printed form, stating ;New Report, December 1955' is glued to this page. Size: L 23 1/2 x B 25 1/2 inches, 5 inch thick. History of Object: a copy of the Sanborn Maps for Alameda; these were used by insurance companies and the like, and were updated regularly with small sections that were be glued on top of older maps. The last correction entered into the corrections book was for 12-59, attached 7-60. This copy had a note stuck in it stating: ‘Map book updated to Dec. 1959. Lewis & Shaw copy’. Lewis & Shaw, later Shaw & Lunt, were a real estate company on Park Street. Book has been in the museum for years, without official catalog entry. Acquired from: Lewis & Shaw?
