This samovar is the original that had been lost for decades. It actually flew on our flights to and from Russia in the 1970's. An inventory tag on the bottom lists the old stock number. It was found on eBay and returned to its rightful home at Alaska.

Description
Golden Samovar
Use
The "Golden Nugget Jets," the Samovar, or "Big Sam" as it was affectionately nicknamed, dispensed "Bolshoi Golden Troika," an ambrosia of coffee, vodka and liqueur! Inflight menus featured everything from caviar hors d'oeuvres and borsch, to beef steak a la romanoff. This unique service complimented Alaska Airlines' brief operation of commercial charter flights to the U.S.S.R., and was continued for many subsequent years due to popularity with passengers.
Context
During the late 1960's and early 1970's, Alaska Airlines offered "Golden Samovar Service," featuring this elegant tear urn that was the pride of every fine Russian home during the days Sitka was capital of Russian America.
