Sourdoughs' Tolls of the Trade: the new Lockheed 382 Hercules air freighter brought one-day delivery of tools of the trade to 1965-style sourdoughs seeking oil and minerals on Alaska's North Slope. On-site delivery of huge vehicles to primitive landing strips was pioneered by Alaska Airlines with the jet-age air freighter this spring. Vehicles show above on the Sag-1 cargo staging area north of the Arctic Circle were airlifted from Fairbanks in one hour plus 9 minutes flight time. They rolled out of the aircraft ready for work.
