五月廿七日付之貴墨拝見其後御報延引御海恕可被下候
I read your letter dated the 27th day of the 5th month. Please kindly forgive me for having been putting off writing to you since then.
例のくたらぬ小集御咲許奉願候
Please warmly accept my collection of poems, which is as boring as ever.
色々申上度候處ひらき封郵送ニ付何事も後便ニ申縮候也
I have so much to tell you, but since this will be delivered unsealed, I’m going to summarize all of that in a later letter.

The rainy season must be over. There is a riverboat luring fish with pine torches on the moonlit night.
ものわすれする風のふく青田かな
Monowasure / suru kaze no fuku/ aota kana
There is a wind blowing over the rice field which makes people forgetful.
