中元 中秋 事皆雨 From mid July to the August Moon there was constant rain;
七月沒肩八月股 In July the waters rose to shoulder height, in August to the crotch.
大水兩度間二旬 Both times the great floods lasted twice ten days.
連屋惣擬居漁民 One would have thought the row houses were fishermen's homes;
通衢皆是操舟人 They were boatmen all who passed along the streets.
袖手無策 空碌碌 Vacant and idle without a plan, my hands in my sleeves,
幾登後山觀飛瀑 Time and again I climb the hills behind to watch the torrents fly
